Candles for food lovers!

Scented candles may be common in many homes (EDITOR: In almost every room, here!) but none are as delicious and unique as Cook with Lisa’s fabulous foodie creations. The dessert themed collection not only smells fantastic - the recipe for each yummy dish is detailed on the label so you can rustle up the real thing, should you want to!

Whether you choose Apple Pie, Shortbread, Raspberry Sorbet or Pineapple Flambé - within minutes of lighting the candle your house will radiate warm and welcoming scents.

Lisa Roukin, creator and talented cooking teacher, was inspired by the comforting smells of her childhood, which many of us will be able to relate to. “There are many aromas that remind me of my childhood food memories, certainly the ones that my Mum and Grandma used to make,” explains Lisa.

“My love of food began at an early age as our kitchen constantly had wonderful food smells that would run through the house. Even walking back home from school I could smell freshly baked shortbread from the street. I loved watching my Mum and Grandma make their special Apple Pie, then waiting by the oven for it to finish baking.”

Our sense of smell is so powerful when it comes to evoking memories from the past that within a few minutes of lighting one of Cook with Lisa’s candles you will be transported back in time to a carefree and happier place.

The manufacturing process was very important to Lisa so she personally developed the fragrances after decided on a range of scents to suit every palate. She has covered the spicy (Apple pie), warm (Shortbread), fresh (Raspberry Sorbet) and tropical (Pineapple Flambé).

And if you want to recreate those flavours yourself for real, Cook with Lisa’s candles have the unique twist of a tried and tested recipe on the label that means you will be able to experience the delicious dish! (EDITOR: And see if the smells your cooking creates matches the candle!)

Each candle has a 50 hour burn time and is handmade in the UK with British sourced ingredients. The candles do not contain any animal products so are suitable for vegetarians too.

They can even be a zero calorie fix for dieters who want to experience their favourite desserts without needing to taste them.

And if you are looking to sell your house this year it's worth remembering the smell of freshly baked goodies is proven to get buyers hooked, so a Cook with Lisa candle could really make a difference without the need to tidy up the kitchen afterwards!

Cook with Lisa candles are available from www.cookwithlisa.com/shop for £14.99.

Technology for arts sake.

Artfinder, the home for art on the web, today launched its first fine art iPad apps in partnership with the Cass Sculpture Foundation and the Wallace Collection’s Watteau exhibition.

Putting collections and exhibitions directly into the hands of art fans, Artfinder’s apps establish the tablet as the key device for art, just as the iPod was the pioneering device for digital music and the Kindle revolutionised e-reading.

The apps represent a whole new shift for art discovery and appreciation. For those visiting galleries, museums, exhibitions and artist’s studios, the apps offer a guide before you view. For those unable to travel to see the works, a window is now opened and made instantly accessible to a global audience via the App Store. Where before you might have bought a postcard of a favourite artwork to send to a friend, you can now instantly share your favourites digitally through the app to your social network

With Artfinder’s apps, art discovery and browsing becomes:

- personal: exhibitions in your hands, in pin-sharp quality
- social: artworks can be shared via email and Facebook
- memorable: favourite the art you like as you browse

For artists, galleries and museums, Artfinder-powered iPad apps represent a new model for publishing curated content: far more accessible than the traditional art book, and offering an experience that can be long-form and comprehensive, souvenir or catalogue-like, a snapshot of an exhibition or collection, or any point in between.

With the Wallace Collection app, users can view high quality images of artworks from the current Watteau exhibition, Esprit et Vérité: Watteau and His Circle. The Cass Sculpture Foundation has partnered with Artfinder to create three apps: Biomorphia, featuring monumental sculptures by Eilís O’Connell, and two of their Breaking The Mould series, which feature works by Tony Cragg, Eduardo Paolozzi, Bill Woodrow and other eminent artists associated with the Foundation.

Chris Thorpe, Artfinder co-founder, said: “Art and this beautiful device and screen are just made for each other. We’re very excited to be launching our apps program with the Cass Sculpture Foundation and the Wallace Collection. We’re taking the coffee table art book into the digital age, and making it globally accessible. Each app offers a unique, self-contained, finishable art experience, retaining what’s wonderful about traditional art catalogues and monographs but with added social features, updateability and interactivity.”

Wilfred Cass, co-founder of the Cass Scultpure Foundation, said: “We are very excited about the Foundation's partnership with Artfinder, and about the apps they've created for us. The experience of viewing and browsing through these beautiful, pin-sharp images of our monumental works on an iPad is hugely enjoyable. We hope that these apps will bring 21st Century British Sculpture to an even wider global audience, while providing a showcase for the work of the Foundation and the artists it supports.”

The apps are available for free in the iTunes App Store now:

Don't kill moths, just put them off!

That's the message from moth expert Jonathan Berliand who makes the claim that using his system of a brand new moth ‘hotspot' map and natural deterrents and repellents should help make moth damage to clothes and furnishings a thing of the past.

UK householders can see Jonathan's exclusive Moth-Map ‘hotspot' to gauge the level of threat of moth damage in their area. Jonathan also provides a FREE Moth Guide Download and information on his website, and provides a range of natural moth deterrent products available at http://www.getridofmoths.co.uk

With moth numbers and the threat of damage to clothes and furnishings and infestation in the home on the rise, Jonathan assures UK householders that his system which combines scientific knowledge with natural deterrents is highly effective and humane.

“Identifying whether your moths are in the bedroom, kitchen, or bathroom is the key to solving the problem in your home” points out Jonathan. “This plus the expert knowledge I'm offering in my FREE moth guide download from the website will tell you exactly how to completely solve your moth problem.”

Jonathan's FREE Moth Guide highlights how and why it's important it is to effectively target male moths, sources of moisture and potential food sources for moths, and gives valuable tips and pointers on how to keep your wardrobes moth-free.

DON'T Kill Moths - Deter Them!

The natural range of deterrents and repellent products that can be purchased via Jonathan's website include Cedar, Orphea and Colibri which are safe to use if you have children or pets. Home-buyers urged to seek out new “quality mark”

The Law Society is urging home-buyers to look out for the new Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) logo when seeking a lawyer to handle the legal aspects of buying a home.

The new scheme is a mark of excellence for residential property lawyers that has seen hundreds of law firms seek to secure the new status mark, which recognises high-quality in conveyancing.

Since opening for applications in January almost 900 firms have applied to obtain the new status, with over 100 so far having passed the rigorous assessment process in order to achieve CQS status.

Law Society President Linda Lee points out: “In the same way that you used to use a CORGI or, as it is now, GasSafe registered engineer, to install a gas boiler, the CQS is a quality mark that is recognition of high residential conveyancing standards solicitors provide.

"Buying a home is generally regarded as one of the largest purchases of anyone’s life, so it makes sense to use a solicitor. Firms that have secured CQS status have gone through a robust assessment process to achieve it.

"As the costs of moving home or arranging a mortgage rapidly increase it may be tempting to seek cheap conveyancing quotes, but as Which? recently said, using a “reliable and efficient” solicitor rather than looking for the cheapest option is essential. With CQS the public can easily identify those firms who have met the exacting CQS standards which reflect the professionalism residential property solicitors provide.

“There is so much to think about when buying a home that little research is undertaken into which firm should handle the legal aspects of the process. CQS allows consumers to identify high quality easily in the knowledge that these firms have undergone a thorough assessment in order to become a CQS member and are subject to  ongoing assessment in order to remain a CQS member."
